Eisenhower Middle School Celebrates 50th Anniversary
News Abstract:
The Eisenhower Middle School, located in Oregon, Ohio, recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary by presenting a generous donation in support of the Eisenhower Memorial, which is to be built in Washington, D.C.

In November, 2012, the Eisenhower Middle School community -- students, teachers and parents -- held a kickoff event for the fundraising drive entitled, “Past, Present and Future.”  With the School’s history in mind, the kickoff was held on the 50th anniversary of the school’s dedication when it opened in 1962.  Since then, members of the school community participated in numerous fundraising activities.  Students designed and sold T-shirts and key chains.  Parents helped out by painting colorful benches that will be positioned around the school.  Families purchased name plaques that will be placed on the benches to memorialize the names of Eisenhower Middle School students.

In addition to their fund raising efforts, Eisenhower Middle School students marked the 50th anniversary milestone by assembling a time capsule that will be buried burying by the school’s flagpole and is to be opened in 25 years. The capsule contains an “I Like Ike” button provided by the Eisenhower Memorial Commission in Washington, DC. The students also spearheaded an effort to break the Guinness Book of World Records standing record for “Walk/Run.”  The Eisenhower students recruited young people from across the nation who participated in the Eisenhower Middle School-led team, which successfully established a new Guinness record!

The Eisenhower Middle School community celebrated their fiftieth anniversary with fun, sports and philanthropy and The Eisenhower Memorial Commission is honored to have been the recipient of their generosity and support of the memorial effort.
