News Abstract:
Washington, November 4, 2019: Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), Chairman of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission, is pleased to welcome Catherine Ann Stevens to the Commission. President Donald Trump announced the appointment on November 1, 2019.

“It is an honor to have Catherine join the Commission. She and my friend Ted Stevens were passionate about honoring General and President Eisenhower. Ted and Senator Dan Inouye introduced the initial legislation calling for a memorial to honor Ike. We are mere months away from the memorial’s completion. Catherine’s appointment is poignant; she was there with Ted when the idea for Ike’s memorial was created and she’ll join us at the memorial’s opening.”

“I am honored to be appointed by President Trump to serve on the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission. Ted and I greatly admired General and President Eisenhower,” said Stevens. “His service to our nation deserves high recognition. He was a man of humble beginnings from our heartland who dedicated his life to service - from leading the United States and its Allies to victory during World War II to his years as our 34th president. He inspired many people – including my late husband – and I look forward to taking part in ensuring his story will be remembered for years to come.  His legacy securing freedom and democracy for millions resounds today.”

Construction of the memorial is on schedule, on budget and will be opened on May 8, 2020, the 75th anniversary of V-E Day. The memorial site is located on between 4th and 6th Streets, S.W., across Independence Avenue from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.
